Services
We offer a wide range of services, from in-depth, long-term subject tutoring to last-minute test preparation classes. We are flexible and versatile, and will work with each client to best meet his or her needs.
IN-HOME TUTORING (ACT/SAT/GRE OR ACADEMIC SUBJECT TUTORING)
For students looking to improve general academic performance or seeking help in a particular academic subject, we will match that student with the tutor that best suits his/her needs, and provide ongoing, individualized tutoring and academic support.
For test tutoring (ACT/SAT/GRE), we generally recommend 8-10 preparatory sessions, held once a week in the student's home or another comfortable setting. Ideally, test-takers should begin tutoring roughly eight weeks before their test date in order to assure that all material is adequately covered and that students have the time to absorb concepts and practice strategies. Our tutors continually reexamine and refine these strategies in order to ensure that we understand what works on the exam, and what doesn't.
We know how to "crack" the SAT/ACT, and we help our students do the same.
Test Preparation Classes
We offer overview/refresher classes for those taking an upcoming ACT or SAT-- typically the weekend before an SAT or ACT test date. These classes cover general format and test taking strategies, as well as a very cursory overview of each section of the exam (ACT English, Math, Reading, Science & Enhanced Essay; SAT English, Critical Reading, Math & Essay), and quick strategies for improving your score. Classes run four hours each, with additional support offered via phone, text, and online instruction (archived or real-time) in the week between the class and the exam.
Classes include all materials and are held at varying locations; we schedule classes with the proximity and convenience of our students in mind. For more information, visit our Upcoming Classes page.
Book clubs
We offer weekly book clubs/reading groups for students from grades 4-12. These can be tailored toward reading comprehension & vocabulary development, on-demand or take-home writing practice, or recreational reading. Tutors work with students and parents to develop a curriculum and reading list(s) to fit students' needs. Dual-language book clubs (English/Spanish) available also!
Rates
Our rates are competitive with other local tutoring institutions, but unlike these institutions, we come to you (or to a local place you designate). For those clients who want to share costs, we are comfortable working with groups of up to three students at no additional charge. Larger groups or classes will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Payment can be made via cash, check, Venmo or Apple Pay in person during each session. Checks should be made payable to the tutor with whom you are working. We request that any cancellations or rescheduling be done with as much advance notice as possible.
